About Us

The Embassy of the Republic of Paraguay in Tokyo, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represents the Paraguayan Government in Japan and is run in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention about Diplomatic Relations and the national laws and regulations of the Paraguayan Executive Branch.

The Consular Section serves Paraguayan citizens and foreign nationals in personal or commercial documentation matters, and provides consular assistance to Paraguayan citizens whose situation may require special attention.

The Embassy also promotes foreign investment and bilateral trade with Japan, and introduces the Paraguayan culture and tourist attractions to the people of Japan and other nations.

Diplomatic Relations with Japan

Diplomatic relations between Paraguay and Japan started on November 17, 1919 with the signing of the bilateral Trade Agreement between both countries. Although three years later, through Decree Nr. 14886/1922, the first Paraguayan Consulate was created in Tokyo, it was not until November 19, 1956 that Paraguay had its first Ambassador designated to Japan, Mr. Nicolás de Bari Flecha Torres who served until July 25, 1961
